The ancient Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia

El Ancient Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia It is another of the many and very important temples that we can meet during a walk on the Acropolis, a magnificent place of which unfortunately today we will only find its ruins, but always surprising us with its rich history and great historical and cultural value.

The origin of the sanctuary is not very clear, but the most accepted is the one that tells a legend about the inhabitants of the town of Brauron, who once killed a bear, the sacred animal of Sagebrush, which in exchange for forgiveness demanded that he be worshiped by granting him girls from 7 to 1 years of age who live in his temple.

The building was a true work of art, an exquisite display of what the engineering of the time was capable of, a true modern marvel hundreds of years old.

The temple in its time was decorated with a very large number of statues, which were partly destroyed and partly stolen by looters, so unfortunately today we cannot appreciate them either.
