In the fall of 1833, three construction workers from the Canadian Pacific Railways stumbled upon a cave containing hot springs in the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains from Alberta. From that humble beginning, the Banff National Park, first canada national park and the third in the world.
It covers 6640 square kilometers of valleys, mountains, glaciers, forests, meadows and rivers, which makes it one of the main destinations for Travelers worldwide.
There, in summer the days are sunny and warm, ideal to perform activities such as hiking, biking, camping and climbing. In winter, on the other hand, the place is covered with snow, which allows ice skating, alpine skiing and Nordic skiing.
The ecosystems represented in this park can be divided into three regions: montane, subalpine and alpine. The montana region is reduced to the bottoms of the valley of the lower zones; here the coniferous forests of species such as Pino Torcido and Pícea Blanca predominate, dotted by some grassland. Coniferous forests also dominate the subalpine region, although in this case made up of Engelmann spruces, subalpine firs and crooked pines. Finally, the alpine region is dominated by rocks and ice, except in its lower part, where you can find areas of bushes and meadows alpine with great diversity of flowers.
La fauna that this place offers is very varied, since there are multitudes of species of fish, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds, although without a doubt, one of the great attractions of the area are black bears, wolves, coyotes, elk, deer and goats, among others.
In the park there are a large number of marked trails and routes. Lake Louise is one of the most visited environments in the site, since it is the typical mountain lake with the forests surrounding its shores and with a glacier at its head.
El Banff National Park offers multiple activities to do, depending on the climate and the season of the year. It is possible to fish, ride a bike, watch birds, perform walks, practice rafting, camping, parachuting, climbing, hike, horseback riding, snorkeling, swimming, taking photos, skiing, snowboarding, ice diving, ice skating and ice climbing.
