Beijing architecture

Three styles of architecture predominate in the urban area of Beijing. First of all, the traditional architecture of Imperial China, perhaps the best example of the huge Tian'anmen (Gate of Heavenly Peace), the Forbidden City, the Imperial Ancestral Temple, and the Temple of Heaven.

Lastly, there are much more modern architectural forms. Beijing of the 21st century has a tremendous growth testimony of new building constructions, showcasing various modern styles from international designers. A mix of both old and new styles of architecture can be seen in Zone 798, 1950s that mixes design with a mix of the new.

Beijing Opera, or Peking Opera (Jingju), is well known in the country's capital. Commonly recognized as one of the greatest achievements of Chinese culture, Beijing opera is performed through a combination of singing, spoken dialogue, and coded sequences of action, such as gestures, movements, fights, and acrobatics.
