Walk the Silk Road

The ancient world communicated by extensive roads, routes, which came and went, moving people and goods. Traders, slaves, prisoners and disparate articles on the back of horses, mules or camels. One of the best known ancient routes is the so-called Silk Road. This route still crosses Asia from China to Europe and in reality you should not imagine it as a precarious highway but as a network of trails here and there that, crossing them, have linked one end to another for more than 2000 years.

Knowledge also traveled with people and goods, so that is how Islam and Buddhism came to China, for example. That is why there are many important historical and religious sites along this extensive route. Today there are still adventurers who decide to take the old journey, all or some part, whether by car, truck, train or bus. It is not easy and it takes time but without a doubt it is the most spectacular trip that can be done. You will have to prepare yourself, know which countries you will cross on the journey and what vaccines or medications you will need, maps and a small dictionary of Chinese, Arabic and Russian will not hurt either.

In addition, winter is not the best time of year to undertake the journey and you must calculate well so that it does not surprise you on the trip. If you are in China you can end up in Europe and if you are in Europe you can end up in China but in no way should you leave out the beautiful Chinese city of Xian and the most special city in Europe and Asia, Istanbul. You should know that there are different routes: the Northern Silk Road, the Middle Silk Road, the Southern Route or the Jade Route and the one that goes from Xi'an to Dunhuag.
