The family commonly called Chibcha or Muísca mainly populated the territories that today comprise the departments of Boyacá and Cundinamarca.
However, the southeastern part of the department of Santander was also the land of a branch of the Chibchas. This is particularly true with regard to ceramics from both regions, which, in many constraints, are confused. It's about the Guane culture.
The chibcha was a race of magnificent goldsmiths, potters, and weavers of blankets and fabrics. Their famous “Tunjos” or idolillos are well known, which they made using an alloy of gold and copper with a predominance of the latter metal, which is distinguished by the name of “Tumbaga”, so used in metallurgy by our aboriginal artists of bygone times.
The Chibchas were also magnificent potters distinguished especially by the manufacture of showy mugs and superb mucuras.
Chibcha pottery differs so much from that of other cultures of ours.
Excellent goldsmiths and potters of fabulous creativity.
I prefer that they clarify in the schools that the culture was Muisca and the language was Chibcha, bone chibcho speakers because they were actually the Muiscas
