El Nevado del Huila It is one of the most majestic tourist destinations in Colombia, considered the largest and most majestic of the Colombian volcanoes, geographically located in relative solitude in the central mountain range, between the volcanoes of the Colombian Massif and those of the Nevados National Park, about the departments of Cauca, Huila y Tolima.
In addition to having imposing natural landscapes in its 158.000 hectares, in which the largest ice cap on a volcano in Colombia stands out with more than 13 square kilometers, the Nevado del Huila has a great water wealth composed of a system of lagoons , streams, streams and rivers that flow into the river basins Magdalena y Cauca. The canyon of the Páez River, where a great stream of thermal waters gushes from the bowels of the earth, in one of its main attractions.
The Park is the habitat of an important animal diversity, highlighting species such as the golden eagle, the condor, deer, rabbits and spectacled bears, among others.
To reach this beautiful destination, two routes are recommended, from the city of Popayán by road to Palma de Cera, passing through Tacueyó, and from the city of Neiva by road to El Roble or to Tóez and then 40 kilometers on foot.
