El Museum of the Royal Houses, In Santo Domingo, It is a set of buildings dating from the colonial era, was built by the Spanish to establish the Palace of the Governors General (Captaincy General) and the Palace of the Royal Audience.

The building resembles a military construction, the predominant materials are mampostory and good quality stones, the style is a mixture of Elizabethan Gothic with Renaissance Plateresque.

The government Joaquín Balaguer, in 1973 he instituted it as a Museum, however, only in 1976, it was officially recognized, counting for the inauguration with the presence of the King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

The Museum presents the history of Discovery of America, the Spanish conquest and colonization. Inside the first floor of the Museum of the Royal Houses you can see the colonial infrastructure made up of the Lobby, Gallery, Patio, Toilet, Exhibition Hall and the Statue of Alonso de Suazo. The gallery on the first floor describes through paintings and writings the history of discovery, conquest and evangelization.

The second floor offers visitors a large Gallery, the Audience Gallery, Weapons Room and Staircase. The themes that can be seen in the gallery are the Waiting Room, the Office of the Chief Auditor, Office of the Captain General, Historical Ceramology, the Great Hall of Governors, Military I and Military II.

The Museum of the Royal Houses is part of the Historic Center of Santo Domingo which in 1990 was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
