May 1 in England

The first day of May is known as May Day in England, or the First of May. It is the time of year when the warmer weather begins and the flowers and trees begin to bloom. It is said to be a time of love and romance.

It is when people celebrate the arrival of summer with a host of different customs that are expressions of joy and hope after a long winter.

That is why there are traditional May Day celebrations that include Morris dancing, crowning a May Queen and dancing around a Maypole.

Although summer does not officially begin until June, May Day marks its beginning. The celebrations have their origin in the Roman festival of Flora, the goddess of fruits and flowers, which marked the beginning of summer. It is celebrated every year from April 28 to May 3.

In other cities on the 1st Monday of May of each year the roads are closed to traffic from 10am - 4pm, to go to the local amusement park where there are plenty of stalls in the city and different activities and rides all day.

In such a way that many of the Day's activities have been moved to the new May holiday (since 1978) on the first Monday of the month. This Monday is a holiday, a day away from school and work. The weekend that is known as the holiday weekend, already comes with the extra day of vacation on Monday.

By the way, May 1 is the date on which Labor Day is celebrated, which has great significance in the labor field worldwide and which honors the Chicago martyrs who in 1866 paralyzed their work routine calling for the reduction of hours of work and other social rights.
