Belgravia, the chic neighborhood of London

London

It is one of the areas of fashion, glamor, politics and entertainment. We refer to Belgravia, which is a district of downtown London in the city of Westminster, located to the south-west of Buckingham Palace. And it is characterized, precisely for being the headquarters of the houses of the famous characters of English politics.

Belgravia is bounded by Knightsbridge to the north, Grosvenor Place and Buckingham Palace Road to the east, Pimlico Road to the south, and Sloane Street to the west. Notably, most of the area was owned by Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquis of Westminster, who had settled there starting in the 1820s.

On a tour of the place you will notice that Belgravia is characterized by large terraces of white stucco houses and close to Belgrave Square and Eaton Square. It was one of London's trendiest of residential districts from the beginning, and continues to be so to this day.

It is a relatively quiet neighborhood in the heart of London, in contrast to neighboring districts which have occupied much more shops, large modern office buildings, hotels and entertainment venues. Similarly, many embassies are located in the area, especially in Belgrave Square.

Notable residents of Belgravia have passed through its streets, such as Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin (1867-1947), Prime Minister Arthur Neville Chamberlain (1869-1940), Polish composer Frederic Chopin (1810-1849), Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), actress Vivien Leigh (1913-1967), novelist Ian Lancaster Fleming (1908-1964), actor Sir Sean Connery, actor Sir Roger Moore, and poet Lord Tennyson (1809-1892).

Today, its famous residents include England's second richest man, Roman Abramovich, former Minister Thatcher, who lives in Chester Square, and actress and writer Joan Collins. It is also the birthplace of Lord Randolph Churchill (Sir Winston Churchill's father) and actor Christopher Lee.
