Christmas Pudding, the Christmas dessert

pudding

El Christmas Pudding o Christmas Pudding is the dessert traditionally served at Christmas (December 25). It has its origin in England, and is sometimes known as plum pudding, although it can also refer to other types of cooked with milk involving a large amount of nuts.

It is a steamed dessert, loaded with dried fruit and nuts, and usually made with tallow. It is very dark in appearance - effectively black - as a result of the dark sugars and black molasses in most recipes, and its long cook time.

In the XNUMXth century, Christmas puddings were boiled in a cloth with milk, and they are still often represented as all year round. However, at least since the beginning of the XNUMXth century, they have generally been prepared in basins. To serve, the pudding is reheated, steamed once more, and dressed in hot brandy that is set on fire.

The pudding is traditionally topped with a sprig of holly. It can be eaten with hard sauce, brandy butter, rum butter, cream, lemon curd, or cream and is often sprinkled with powdered sugar. Traditionally, a silver coin (six pence) was hidden inside the Christmas pudding. The silver coin brought good luck to whom I was lucky enough to find when the pudding was cut.
