Essex and its tourist towns

Essex is a county located to the east of London that comprises of the Eastern region of England. It borders Greater London and Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Its border with Kent is the River Thames and its capital is Chelmsford.

The truth is that Colchester stands out there, which is the ancient Roman city that continues to be one of the attractions for tourists. Equally attractive to the north are the adjacent riverside towns of Manningtree and
Mistley that were the refuge of General Witchfinder in the 17th century.

While bustling Braintree is famous for its 18th century textiles and silk work, while Coggeshall and Halstead offer their antique craft shops.

It should be noted that Chelmsford (the county town) was granted its City Charter in 1199, and is home to Cathedrals, medieval manors, department stores, museums, and galleries. And for more nature and relaxation, follow the river to Maldon, an ancient city that was a port and center for sailing ships.

Also worth a visit is Burnham-on-Crouch, one of the main centers of sailing in addition to the ports of Kent and Sussex, and Harwich with its maritime history, such as the Redoubt Fort.

And you can end your tour in Saffron Walden, an old town with medieval buildings and an unusual lawn maze and the largest parish church in Essex.
