Greek music: harmony and Mediterranean rhythms

Of the ancient greeks from whom we take the word music, they called it Mousike after the nine muses, goddesses of inspiration.

They took the musical concepts from Mesopotamia and Egypt, music in Greece included poetry, music and dance, granted their origin to the gods.

Plato He considered it as the foundation of teaching, musical calligraphy was composed with the letters of the alphabet, there were many laws and norms that governed the music: different scales that in turn created modes, these are more or less our modern tones.

The Greeks attached great importance to music, every year they commemorated a competition in Athens.

Each region formed a choir and sang a dynyramb is a kind of hymn that was performed in ceremonies and other circumstances.

People wore special clothing for those occasions and there were dances as well.

The Greeks sang at theater functions, held festivals in honor of the god Dionysus, most of the stringed instruments came from the Middle East, the most used were the harp or the lyre, which they called ala khitara or large lyre and a double reed flute called aulos (ancient Greek shawm).

    Hello,
I've been to Greece 2 times and I love Greek music, well, in general I like modern music more than traditional music, and I recommend the singer Eleftheria Arvanithaki and also Alkistis Protopsalti, who has a very powerful voice.
For the rest, Greece is a country that I highly recommend visiting.
