Greek sculptures in Spain

Of the best-preserved marble sculptures found in Spain, is that of the god Asklepios, who was the Greek god of health. This statue represents the god standing, leaning on the left leg, and with the other leg on the right, somewhat bent. In his hand he carries a staff as a sign of power, of majesty, it is not to lean on. A cloak covers him, wrapping the body, tied at the left shoulder, exposing the right man and part of the chest. The facial features are seen with greater power by the beard and long hair.

Alongside the image of this god, there are parts of other marble statues that are seen to have been majestic as well. Some parts can be of Hygieia, and the rings of the serpent. There is also a head of great beauty, somewhat smaller than natural measurements. It was first said that it could be from Aphrodite, but if the hairstyle without curlers is analyzed, it suggests that it could be Artemis goddess of the hunt.

Bronze statuettes have been found in Levante and in the Balearic Islands, such as the satyrs in Mallorca, the warriors in Cadiz, silenos such as those of the Llano de Consolación in Albacete, the sirens of Rafael del Toro in Menoría, there are also centaurs like the de Rollos in Murcia, dating from the XNUMXth century BC, is one of the most famous statues. They are centaurs as they were represented in archaic Greece, half horse and half man, currently some parts are missing. The Greeks saw centaurs as an intermediary between the world and the world beyond the grave.
