Heracles and Garden of the Hésperides

Garden of the Hesperides

In Greek mythology it is found the history of the Garden of the Hesperides, whose location is uncertain.
Hera received as a wedding gift a tree from the hands of Gaea, the Earth. The gift was a golden apple tree that was said to be immortal who ate them. She planted the tree in the garden and entrusted the three hesperid nymphs, at Hesperetusta, Egle, Eritia, daughters of the Titan Atlas. Little by little the Garden became the most precious thing for the goddess Hera, and since she did not trust the Nymphs because they were wasting apples, she put the hundred-headed dragon Ladon that never slept to take care of it.
One day Heracles He was condemned by Hera and forced to do 10 jobs that later were more, and the one who chose the jobs was Euristeo. Among them he had to steal apples from the Garden of the Hesperides. No one knew the exact place where he was, but speaking to the titan Atlas who had to keep the heavens on his shoulders, he told him that he knew where the Garden was and that he would bring him the apples if he held the heavens on his shoulders.

Atlas killed the dragon and stole the apples, but from every drop of blood a dragon-tree was born. Atlas brought the apples to Heracles but did not want to carry on to the heavens, so he told him that he himself would take the apples to Eurystheus. But Heracles deceived him, he told Atlas to carry the heavens for a moment to put on his cloak, and so Heracles left with the apples.
Since then Heracles was the only one who stole the golden apples, although he was not directly the one who got them. Later the goddess Athena returned them to the Garden of the Hesperides.
