Arachova, near Delphi

Arachova

In mainland Greece there is a small town called Arachova which is right next to Delos, about 12 km away. 180 kilometers separate it from Athens, the country's capital, and it is just 25 km from the summer resorts of Galaxidi, Atikira and Itea. Arachova belongs to the Viotia prefecture and has around 3300 inhabitants, beautiful houses built on the hills of Mount Parnassos at an altitude of between 800 and 1100 meters.

Arachova's name derives from Slavic and means walnut trees. Obviously, the area is full of these trees, although there is also another theory that says that the name derives from two Greek words. However, its proximity to Delphi has greatly favored it in terms of tourism and thus it has developed its own attractions.

In winter it is perfect because it is 15 km from the Parnassos ski centers and it is cheaper, and in summer it is the best scenery for biking, walking, climbing, paragliding from the hills, camping in the woods and more. Of course, it has beaches very close so in summer there are even more visitors. It is a small place and cheaper than its surroundings.
