Following the Route of the Apostle Paul in Greece

Apostle Paul in Greece

If you like the Hiking but you are also a very religious person, you can follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul. This is the most popular hiking trail in the country. The Apostle Paul took care of spreading the Christian faith through many nations and at one point he arrived in Greece so the route follows the path that he made proclaiming the gospel. This is the route of the Apostle Paul in Greece:

  • Samothrace: in memory of his passage through here a church was built with parts of older buildings.
  • Kavala : here it arrived, to Neapoli, and then I headed towards Agios Nikolais and Filipi, 12 kilometers away. In Filipi he baptized a woman, the first Greek to be baptized, but this was also where the Romans accused him of causing disturbances and imprisoned him. An earthquake opened the prison doors, to the astonishment of the guard who was ultimately baptized, and they headed toward Thessalonica.
  • Tesalónica: Here he went to the synagogue and managed to convince some people that Jesus was the prophet. His activities caused a stir again and together with Silas, his traveling companion, he had to leave the city at night.
  • VeriaHere he was in charge of spreading the gospel in the local synagogue and it was better received among the Jews than in Thessalonica. His enemies in this city found out about his activities in Veria and they sent people to complicate his work so he had to escape from Veria as well. Today there is a monument, the «Podio de Pablo».
  • AthensPaul arrived here by boat and did the same: preach in the squares and in the synagogues. Luckily they didn't chase him here and that's why there is a church, built in the XNUMXth century.
  • Corinthian: Here the Jews did not like his activity very much and were quite hostile so he had to go to Ephesus.
