Overnight at Athens Airport

sleeping in Athens Airport

Did you miss the flight? Welcome to the club of flight losers! It happens to all of us sometime. I had my debut at Narita Airport and I had to stay from 7:30 pm that day until the same time the next day I was only able to dispatch my backpack at 3 pm and I spent the most uncomfortable and cold night of my vacation in Japan . Horrible. But it seems like spending the night in the Athens Airport It's not that bad…

Let's see, if for those things in life you end up missing your flight then there are some things about the airport in the Greek capital that you should know. In the arrivals area There are some facilities that are open at night: travel agencies, car rental agencies and restaurants and cafes. The former can contact you with hotels and taxis and the latter have their staff always ready. Restaurants and cafes are also operational so a coffee or dinner you can always enjoy (something I didn't have in Tokyo). With the suitcases there is not much to do because at dawn none of that works so if you move you move with your suitcase on your back.

When it comes to shopping and entertainment, some places are open so you can still buy a book or newspaper. The pharmacy is closed and as time passes you see how those who missed their flights gather to spend the night on uncomfortable sofas and chairs. All this in the Arrivals area. What happens in the departure area? It is all very active, there are always people sleeping and the rows of seats do not have armrests so it is good to lie down and sleep. Of course, there is a lot of light so you want darkness, you go up to the museum and there it is always darker and quieter. The food court is always open, another good news.
