During the week we were reviewing some of the best cafes and patisseries in Athens. After all, this is a city with a great gastronomic offer and luckily, sometimes bad, sometimes good, many of these stores are surviving the harsh economic crisis. A tourist's visit is always welcome.

For this Sunday we have a couple more names to add to the list of Athens cafes and patisseries, places, shops, where you can sit down to taste a coffee and a sweet or buy to take home, to the hotel or to the hostel.

  • Varses: It is a shop that has been in the hands of the same family since 1892. It is the oldest pastry shop in Athens and is a favorite when it comes to buying or eating traditional Greek products such as yogurt, rose jam, meringues and more. It is in Kifisia and local people often take this business as a meeting point. It has tables inside and outside, to enjoy the afternoons of good weather. It is on Kassaveti Street, 5. Kifisia.
  • ION Chocolate: It is one of the best known brands that specialize in chocolates. There is a very popular own version, the ION Amigdalou, a chocolate with almonds that has followed the same recipe for forty years. It is sold in kiosks and supermarkets.
  • Terkenlis: This bakery is originally from Thessaloniki but has two branches in Athens, one in the arrivals terminal of the Athens International Airport. It is known for its traditional Greek sweets.
  • Mustakas: this store is near Syntagma Square and sells sweets and candies, there is a lot of variety. It is on Karagiorgi Street, 3.
