Safety in Athens

Athens metro

Is Greece a safe country to travel? Good question. If it is. Even today when this crisis seems to give him no truce. That does not mean that it is as safe as Japan, nothing to see. You must take into account certain details and notices. Of course, each experience is personal and that you will listen to everything. Greece is a safe country but not as safe as it used to be. Especially Athens, a city in which you must handle yourself with care, as in any other capital city of Europe. I mean petty theft or crime.

Like any city in the world, robberies and crimes have increased in recent years and it is true that there are certain corners of the city that you should not visit. Or even host you. For example, there are those who recommend not walking or staying on Massalias, Marni or Stourni streets, Omonia square, Menandrou street and Iasonos street. It seems that for some time now in this central area of Athens drug addicts gather and the drug exchange takes place in broad daylight, at the entrances of apartment buildings and under the trees. You should also avoid Tossita street, a pedestrian street, on one side of the National Museum of Archeology. It's pretty but sometimes in a kind of open-air drug bazaar. The best entrance to the museum is through the front park.

If you are staying in the center of Athens for other reasons, be careful when you return at night. It is preferable to stay near the metro, for example. And speaking of the subway, luckily here in Athens it is quite safe, although you must be careful with wallet thieves who work especially on the platforms before the arrival of the service.
