Many say that the entrance to the Acropolis of Athens is the Beulé Gate, although it must be said that it is more correct to say that it is about the exit. Your tour of the Acropolis will end at this point once you leave Proplyea, even if it is the first thing you see of this ancient sector of the Greek capital.
History tells us that in the third century, in the midst of the Herullian invasion Some repairs were made to the walls of the Acropolis and then what we now call Puerta Beulé was built.. The idea was to restrict the entrance right in front of Propylea and make the Acropolis a fortress of sorts. It was only rediscovered in 1852 and is called that, Beulé, by the French archaeologist Ernest Beulé, the subject who discovered it.
The truth is that the Puerta Beulé is very large at its base and once had a chariot as a monument to one of the Roman vice regents. It has two towers of different height and was used as a defensive structure as well.
