Within the group of the Cyclades Islands is the small Andros. It is the most northeastern island and is about 40 kilometers long, barely 16 meters wide at its thickest point. It is decorated with mountains and has valleys with groves of fruit trees.

Andros It has a long history but the longest period of domination was under the Byzantine Empire. Later it fell into the hands of the crusaders and later of the Republic of Venice. Andros Island may be small but it is a world of stories and treasures. As you approach this Greek island by sea, you will see a lighthouse on the coast: it is the Tourlitis Lighthouse, a construction from the late nineteenth century that perches on a small rock.

El Tourlitis Lighthouse It was built in 1897, destroyed by the bombs of the Second World War and restored in 1994. At the time of being automated it became the first automatic lighthouse in Greece. He no longer has a guard, although there is someone who visits him regularly so that everything works. The lighthouse has a cylindrical tower seven meters high and the focal light is located at 36 meters. We see it right in front of the castle left by the Venetians in the capital of the island.

El Tourlitis lighthouse It is the only lighthouse in Greece built on a rock in the sea. He had the honor of becoming the first Greek lighthouse to appear on a stamp.
