The regions of Greece

Greece is a small country but quite administratively divided so we have thirteen regions, called peripheries, divided in turn into "nomos", the provinces. There are also 51 nomi, the municipalities are called Dimos and the Kinotita communities. Confusing, isn't it?

Let's see, the regions of Greece and their respective capitals are:

  • Attica- Athens
  • Central Greece - Lamia
  • Western Greece - Patras
  • Central Macedonia - Thessaloniki
  • East Macedonia and Thrace - Komoténe
  • Crete - Heraklion
  • Épiro - Loánnina
  • Ionian Islands - Corfu
  • North Aegean - Mytilene
  • South Aegean - Hermoúpolis
  • Peloponnese - Tripoli
  • Thessaly - Larissa

In turn, these regions have several provinces. And also outside of them are the monasteries of the Mount Athos, an administrative sector independent of the government. Greece is a presidential republic with a legislative chamber, a head of state who is the president and a head of government who is the prime minister.
