Typical Greek Christmas sweets

What did the Greeks eat this Christmas? What did they buy in the Hersonissos bazaar or in the shops? What was on the Greek tables on New Year's Eve and on December 25 at noon? Well, in principle two typical dishes of these dates: the Melomakarona and the Kourabiedes.

Is sweet dumplings and in both cases that they prepare especially for Christmas. Kourabiedes cookies are made with flour, butter, powdered sugar, roasted almonds, a little cognac baking powder and rose water. The ingredients are mixed and given a rounded shape, as if they were meatballs, and at the end of the cooking, 20 minutes later, they are bathed with rose water and sprinkled with a lot, but a lot, powdered sugar.

By contrast, Melomakarona cookies are dark and elongated. They are made with oil, sugar, orange juice, semolina, flour, baking powder, lemon and orange essence, honey and nuts. With the preparation, small sticks are assembled that grow in the heat of the oven and when we remove them from the heat, about 30 minutes later, they are firm and brown in color. Once they are completely cold, they are placed in rows, syrup is thrown over them and then, to finish, the chopped walnuts. Well, the recipes are not difficult so maybe next Christmas we can have a "Greek Christmas" in our homes.
