The flag of Ireland

flag

La Irish flag It is made up of three vertical lines of equal size: the left one is green, the middle one is white and the other is orange. It is a tricolor flag that basically symbolizes unity, Brotherhood, between the different social groups of the nation.

The flag of Ireland is inspired by the French flag, in fact Thomas Francis Meagher conceptualized it and brought it on silk from Paris, presenting it at one of the meetings in Dublin. According to several scholars, the Irish flag does not really have any official meaning, but there is never a lack of legends that speak about the choice of colors.

The three colors, white, green and orange represent the people of Ireland, Catholics and Protestants. The white line between them would then be associated with the color of peace that should reign between both religious groups. The Northern Irish are called orange people (by William of Orange, the King of England, Scotland and Ireland who deposed the Catholic King James II in 1690 at the Battle of Boyne near Dublin); green is for Irish Catholic nationalists and white, as I said before, is union, brotherhood.
