Vernazza, the most beautiful town in Cinque Terre

One of the World Heritage sites that Italy has is the area known as Cinque Terre. It is a really beautiful area that is made up of five very picturesque coastal villages. Going through them all is one of the best routes you can do here, in northwestern Italy. One of them is Vernazza.

Vernazza is said to be the most beautiful of the five with its houses stacked along the cliff, its ancient castle and its seascapes. Vernazza is still a fishing village but it is millenary since it dates back to the year 1000. For much of its history it has been under the control of the Republic of Genoa and due to its status as a port, in which it has the best port of all Cinque Terre villages, has needed a protective castle. This is called Belforte and dates from the middle of the XNUMXth century.

Its status as a port has made many of its inhabitants wealthy people and that wealth has been translated into the construction of elegant mansions and residences, so the town is beautiful, small but precious nonetheless. A good way to get around Vernazza and the other towns in the Cinque Terre is to take the milk train that departs from Genoa or La Spezia. The trip is wonderful, the landscapes beautiful because you see the sea and olive groves and you can go down in each of the towns. In the case of Vernazza, in addition to walking through its streets and visiting the castle, you can walk to Monterosso or Corniglia.
