Collodi, the town of Pinocchio

Do you know who it is Carlo Lorenzini? The author of the famous tale of Pinocchio, the children's classic of all time. This gentleman was born in the Italian Tuscany, in the charming town of Collody, town that from the fame of his son has spread a bit of popularity. The origins of this town date back to the XNUMXth century and to this day it is a quaint, small and surprisingly well-preserved town. Its surroundings are hills that, yesterday as today, are the best walk to do.

The town looks like a cascade of small stone houses that are built on the steep side of a hill. The highest part of the town is dominated by an ancient rock and by the Church of San Bartolomeo, inside which there is a valuable organ dating from the XNUMXth century. At the base of the town is in turn the Villa Garzoni, a wonderful house with a really beautiful XNUMXth century baroque garden. And of course, honoring his most famous son is the Pinocchio park, a huge open-air museum that allows the visit of people of all ages. It is the best trip to the purest fantasy. It was built between 1956 and 1987 and you will see mosaics with the history of the character, a 5 meter high bronze statue of Pinocchio, a toy town crossed by paths with all the statues of the characters, there are many exhibits and a lot of special fun for kids.

Also, if you like stories, you can do the Fairy Tale Trail, walk a path that connects the town of Collodi with the town of Pescia, crossing hills. Along the entire route there are facilities typical of the fantasy world of stories. If you are in Pescia, this path begins at the old Monastery of San Miguel, you cross an old medieval bridge, the countryside and a couple of hours later you arrive at Villa Garzoni, at the entrance to Collodi.
