Lombardy and its cities

One of the most populated regions of Italy is Lombardia, in the north of the country. Its capital is the sophisticated and elegant city of Milan and its geography has high mountains, hills and plains. Many rivers cross this region of Italy, but the Po River is the largest of them all, although there are also numerous lakes. It is a land that has been inhabited by Celts, Romans, barbarians and finally Longobards (between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries) who were the ones who gave it its name.

During the Middle Ages it was divided into fiefdoms and later it was divided into communes that did not get along very well with each other so there was no lack of fights between the strongest families, among them the powerful Visconti one of the most powerful families of the Renaissance or the Sforza of Milan. After passing through the hands of Spain, Austria and France it finally joined the Kingdom of Italy in the XNUMXth century. If you decide to visit Lombardy then you cannot miss some of its most beautiful cities: first you have Milan, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, but you also have Brescia with its squares and centuries-old buildings, Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet and Sirmione, entering Lake Garda and offering itself completely to tourism.

There is also the Lake Como with the peoples on its shores, as Bellagio, Like same, Sala Comacina, Tremezzo, Varenna, Lecco or Menaggio and finally Bergamo, the city with a medieval structure with the beautiful Vecchia square, for many the most beautiful square in the world.
