The land of the tulips it occupies a strip of more than 30 km. between Haarlem and Leiden. It is the most important area of cultivation of this wonderful flower and that in January the buttons of beautiful colors begin to sprout, but you have to wait until April to see the spectacle when they bloom and color all the fields.

The tulip bulb arrived in Holland at the end of the 16th century. The flower and the bulb were thought to be so special that an active trade emerged quite quickly. In 1634 there was a single light bulb that was so expensive, a house by the canal everything could be bought with money in Amsterdam.
In 1637 the government took speculation in hand and the bulbs dropped in price drastically. The bulb and flower became "normal." These days Aalsmeer controls a market share of 44% of the turnover of tulip flowers and bulbs.
The tulip route passes through the vast tulip fields. You, of course, also visit the world famous park of 32 hectares «The Keukenhof, where you can admire the wonderful and colorful with fields of flower bulbs in peace and quiet.
From Leiden it is easy to take the bus and have a wonderful day at the Keukenhof. At the end of the day you catch the bus back to Leiden. The bus admission costs are included in the price of the trip. Between Leiden and Haarlem you can explore the tulip fields.
