The imposing Folgefonna glacier near Bergen

One of the most important natural settings that synthesize the great wealth of the Norwegian territory is the imposing Folgefonna glacier, located in the southeast of the country, in the region of Hardanger (the heart of the Norwegian fjords). It is located just 2 hours east of Bergen.

It is the fourth largest glacier in the country, behind the glaciers autsfonna in Svalvard, jostedalsbreen and Svartisen. It is actually made up of three different glaciers (Nordre, Midtre, and Sønde); its highest point is 1640 meters above sea level, and its lowest point is 990 meters above sea level.

In total, it covers an area of ​​203 square kilometers, and since 2005 it is part of the Folgefonna National Park, whose surface area of ​​545,2 km ², and covers the municipalities of Jondal, Kvinnherad, Etne, Odda and Ullensvang.
