The ghosts of the Colosseum

It goes without saying that the Colosseum in Rome is one of those world-renowned monuments. His image is possibly one of the most photographed and emblematic of the Eternal City. A building with twenty centuries of history and that once housed the famous gladiator fights and other shows. But, did you know that it is also one of the most enchanted places in the world?

They tell the stories that in this sense they run through the Italian capital that at night, in the corridors and the dungeons of this Colosseum, you can still hear the cries of the prisoners who were waiting to jump into the sand to be executed or devoured by wild beasts. Many tourists and locals claim to have heard whispering voices, crying sounds, wailing and even growling from wild animals in the moats located under the amphitheater.

But especially it is the night watchmen of this monument who witness these ghostly stories. There is another legend that assures that the spirit of the emperor titus, son of Vespasian (the ruler who had the Colosseum built), wanders around this monument every night. Surely it is one more reason and excuse to visit it, right?

There is precisely one Rome walking tour dedicated to the best known ghosts and mysteries of this city. In addition to the Colosseum, you will visit places such as Corso Vittorio Emmanuele II, Campo de Fiori, Piazza Farnese, Via Giulia, Via del Governo Vecchio and the Castle of San Angelo. This route departs every night from the Church of San Andrea della Valle and ends at the castle. A unique opportunity to get to know the city at night and, why not, be a little scared ...
