The wonderful port city: Civitavecchia.

Within the province of Roma we will find one of the most wonderful cities in all Italy: Civitavecchia, which, owner of a large port, becomes a must when you visit the Italian capital.

As we told you, Civitavecchia is a town located in the center of Lazio. Inside it it runs aground in the Tyrrhenian sea the port that bears the same name as its municipality, located just 80 kilometers from the historic center of Rome. One of the most interesting attractions of Civitavecchia is its beautiful lighthouse located in the middle of the port. At the base of it you will find some shopping stores with regional products and several confectioneries so that you can enjoy the beautiful view accompanied by a coffee and a sweet.

El port of Civitavecchia it has a long history. It is ordered to be built in the second century by the great emperor Trajan. It was only with the arrival of Pope Innocent XIIIn 1696, the port began to be used for free trade, being considered the most important port of Rome in the modern age.

In 1859, a railway line was built that linked the city with the center of Rome. On April 16 of that same year, it was inaugurated, representing a breakthrough for Italian society.

Unfortunately, many of the monuments and historical relics of the city were affected by the damage caused by the Second World War. Year after year an attempt was made to rebuild little by little various spaces in Civitavecchia.

If you visit the municipality today you will quickly realize that it is a purely port city, full of cruise ships and ferries. They themselves are in charge of taking tourists from there to different parts of the world; the most common destinations are Sardinia y Barcelona.

I advise you to visit the famous ones without fail Ficoncella Baths, the same ones that in ancient times were the place chosen by the emperors to cure their physical and spiritual ailments.
