About the three coins of the Trevi Fountain

The traditional story about the famous Trevi Fountain has always caught my attention. Tossing a coin backwards using your right hand will make you return to Rome ... the truth is that this urban legend does not originate in something ancestral or some particular event, but rather in a movie, but let's give this a spin ...

The Trevi Fountain is a baroque fountain that dates back to the XNUMXth century, and is dominated by a statue of Neptune. The design and implementation of the project is due to Nicolo Salvi, but the fountain also has statues by other artists, the name "Trevi" is due to the fact that it is located at the intersection of three streets (Tre Vie, three streets).

Now, the tradition of tossing coins is actually a variation of a much older tradition, which was to drink the water from a fountain and then leave an offering, however, the precise urban legend of the Trevi Fountain was popularized in the 1945 film "Three coins in the fountain" directed by Jean Negulesco and whose main theme was sung by Frank Sinatra himself. The film is about three girls who toss a coin into the fountain hoping that their dreams will come true. The impact of the film was such that the same source now has instructions for carrying out this tradition.

With a coin to go back to Rome
With two coins a girl will meet an Italian
With three coins a girl will marry an Italian.

Of course part of the rite indicates that it must be with the right hand and on the left shoulder. Time brings and takes traditions, the Trevi Fountain is one of the best known and probably the most visited in all of Europe, I would have my coin ready, just in case.
