Muddus National Park

muddus It is a national park in northern Sweden. It is located in the province of Lapland, with most of it in the Gällivare Municipality. In addition, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Natural scenes include virgin forest with large trees, a large swampy terrain, and deep ravines between the rocks and where it is possible to experience virgin slaughter, waterfalls, the solitude of swamps and an animal life that is typical of what that remains of unspoiled Norrland.

Muddus National Park covers an area: 49.340 hectares and was founded in 1942 and is located on Highway 97 in Norrbotten County. The easiest way to get to the park is by road from Liggadammen. From the terminal road in Skaite, there is a trail to Muddus Falls and Måskokårså. The paths of Solaure and Sarkavare also connect with the park's trail system.

There are four cabins and two simple tourist cabins along the trails. A birdwatching tower at Muddusloubbal offers a view over the marshes. In order to protect nesting birds around Lake Muddusjaure, Sörstubba and the Måskokårså River, access is prohibited from March 15 to July 31 of each year.

The terrain is flat with only a few peaks. There are several deep ravines in the south, for example the Måskoskårså which is an impressive experience 70 meters deep and 2,5 km long. The Muddusjaure Swamp is home to a rich bird life and a bird protection zone has been created there.

The Muddus' most important tourist attractions are the ancient forests with their giant fir trees and the deep rocky ravines with their interesting flora, the Muddusjokk waterfall and the park's animal life.
