Prostitution in Switzerland

Switzerland

The legality of prostitution in Europe varies by country. Some countries is outlawing the act of engaging in sexual activities in exchange for money, while others allow prostitution itself, but prohibit most forms of pimping (such as brothels, facilitating the prostitution of another, stemming from profit from the prostitution of another, soliciting / vagrancy, etc.) in an attempt to make it more difficult to engage in prostitution.

In 8 European countries (Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Latvia) prostitution is legal and regulated.

Switzerland

As for Switzerland, prostitution is legal in Switzerland and regulated. Licensed brothels, usually with a reception and leading to several studio apartments, are available. Street prostitution is illegal, except in specially designated areas in large cities.

Many prostitutes operate through newspaper advertisements, mobile phones for dating in rented apartments. It is legal to advertise "massages" in the tabloids. It should be noted that in Switzerland prostitutes pay VAT (Value Added Tax) for their services and some accept credit cards.

Most of the prostitutes are foreigners from Latin America, Eastern Europe or the Far East. In recent years the number of prostitutes has increased. The police estimate that there may be between 1.500 and 3.000 victims of human trafficking in Switzerland.

The truth is that the prostitution business often turns violent, it can lead to raids, turf wars, shootings and arson attacks on rival brothels.
