Lake Toplitz, will it hide the gold of the Nazis?

Lake Toplitz

Hidden in a thick forest in the Austrian Alps, just under a hundred kilometers from the city of Salzburg, there is a beautiful lake: it is the Lake Toplitz. It is all surrounded by mountains and at a depth of 20 meters its waters no longer contain a drop of oxygen, so its marine life can only live from there upwards because from there downwards the water is salty and only bacteria live another tough worm.

But Lake Toplitz is not famous for this peculiar feature but for its history with the nazis. It seems that between '43 and '44 a German naval test station operated on its shore in which it was experimented with explosives composed of copper. The explosions were made several meters deep and torpedoes were even launched towards the mountains, or so they say. They also say that in the depths the famous and lost Nazi gold is hidden.

The first dives were in the late 50s and boxes with fake money were foundbut a while ago the government authorized an American treasure hunter to make new dives, to see if this mystery is finally solved. American busses spent a long time traveling to the dark bottom of the lake in search of Nazi gold. Legend has it that German trucks brought metal boxes here and dumped them into the lake. The busos they managed to submerge up to 107 meters.

And what did they discover? Mud and wood, lots of wood. So it was very difficult to distinguish something and much more to find something. This story I am telling you took place eleven years ago. And so far there is nothing new under the sun: Nazi gold, if it exists, has not been found and Lake Toplitz remains a legend and nothing more.
