El Salvador and its archaeological route

This rue is made up of different archaeological sites located in the Department of Freedom and in the of Saint Ana, which are: San Andrés, Jewel of Ceren y tazumal. A route perfect for adventurers who like to know and discover the traces left by our ancestors.

El San Andres archaeological park It is approximately half an hour from San Salvador. There, findings of great importance were made that allow us to know the contacts of San Andrés with the area Maya.

Taking the detour to San Juan Opico, after passing the bridge located approximately 15 minutes away, you will find on your left the archaeological site of Jewel of Cerén. The name “jewel” is taken for its importance as an archaeological site and “Cerén” because the farm where the site was found when the silos were built to store grains belonged to a family whose last name was that.

This place was named by Unesco Heritage in 1993, because it details the history and the meeting with the estate of the family life of Salvadorans 1400 years ago. Thanks to the findings of this place, it is known about the way in which the indigenous people made their home gardens, as was the distribution of their housing, in addition to how they made their utensils and crafts.

Finally, the Tazumal archaeological site, is located in the city of Chalchuapa, in the department of Santa Ana, a little over an hour from San Salvador. This place is made up of several recognized archaeological sites, among which we can highlight: Tazumal, Casa Blanca, El Trapiche and the Laguna de Cuscachapa. Among the most important finds we must mention the Virgin Tazumal and a man named Chao Mool, which was found in the now called Laguna Seca de Chalchuapa.
