Hiawatha
Without a doubt Hiawatha is the most famous Native American Indian in history. He is recognized as a great peace activist and a charismatic leader of his people. He was also considered a spiritual leader.
Hiawatha is particularly known for his diplomacy and the execution of great political projects. One of his greatest achievements was the creation of the Iroquois Confederacy which meant a meeting of five different tribes sharing the same language.
Sitting bull
This individual was credited as a wise man and a great connoisseur of medicine. His victory against the forces of Lieutenant Colonel George Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn was highly praised by making him famous.
Black Hawk
Although Black Hawk was never really the traditional chief of a Native American tribe, his efforts earned him the title of being a warchief. He showed his great fighting skills in the War of 1812 who died in New York.
Pocahontas
Thanks to the Disney animated film Pocahontas, this Native American character has become well known. Although a woman, Pocahontas is undoubtedly counted among the most famous Native American Indians. She actually became popular for being the daughter of a strong tribal chief and yet she fell in love with and married an English man. Towards the end of his life he had totally abandoned his Native American heritage and adopted the European way of life.
Crazy Horse
This is perhaps one of the liveliest Indian Indian characters ever. He was a revolutionary leader who led a surprise attack in 1876 against a band of US military led by General George Crook. This surprise attack actually paved the way for Native American victory at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
