How is the New Year celebrated in Cairo?

Starting with the essentials, the Jesus' birth is not celebrated in Egypt on December 25, but on January 7. This particularity is not exclusive to the Copts - the Russian Orthodox Church also takes January 7 as a reference - but in this case the date is chosen by its correspondence with the 29th day of the Coptic month of Kiohk.
From the November 25 until Christmas Eve - that is, until January 6 -, a fast is carried out that does not consist in completely abandoning food, but in choosing only those foods that do not come from animal origin. Finally, on the big day of the celebrations, the traditional dinner includes a delicious Fatta dish, prepared with rice and, of course, meat.
In general, the festivities begin during the week leading up to January 7. The houses begin to display their luminous decorations and the Christmas trees are also present. Christmas cards are also a highly respected tradition in Egypt.
