Famous throughout the world, the pyramids of Egypt are the main tourist attraction that attracts tens of thousands of visitors a year.

Bent pyramid

And among the largest that exist in the country is the Bent Pyramid, called the rhomboid pyramid, located on the outskirts of Dahshur, 40 km south of Cairo, it was the second pyramid built by Pharaoh Snefru.

Mysteriously, the Egyptian pyramid rises out of the desert at an angle of 55 degrees and suddenly changes to a more gradual angle of 43 degrees. The base of the pyramid is 188,6 meters (619 feet) and the height of 101,1 meters (332 feet).

One theory holds that due to the original angle tilt the weight added above the interior chambers and passageways became too great, forcing the builders to adopt a shallower angle.

Red pyramid

And built by Pharaoh Snefru, the Red Pyramid is the world's first successful attempt at building a true pyramid. The pyramid measures 220 by 220 meters (722 feet) and is 104 meters (341 feet) high.

It was the largest pyramid in Egypt until the construction of the pyramids of Giza. What really makes today's Red Pyramid special is the lack of crowds plaguing the Giza plateau and the relatively unregulated inland access.

Pyramid of Khafre

It is the second pyramid in Giza, after the Great Pyramid built by Khufu's father Khafre. It appears to be a bit larger though, as it is build at a higher elevation.

The pyramid has a base length of 215,5 meters (706 feet) and originally rose to a height of 143,5 meters (471 feet), but is now 12 meters shorter.

The most distinctive feature of the Pyramid of Khafre is the top layer of smooth stones that are the only remaining covering stones in a Giza pyramid.

Pyramid of Cheops

It is the oldest and only remnant of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. More than 2 million stone blocks were used to build the pyramid, during a 20-year period ending around 2560 BC.

The pyramid is 230 meters (755 feet) long and a towering 139 meters (455 feet) high (originally 146,5 meters or 480,6 feet). So in the end, after reviewing all the great pyramids the Great Pyramid of Cheops is still the largest pyramid ever built.
