Bon Odori, the traditional dance

El Bon Odori It is a traditional Japanese dance, it is the one that is used to dance at night, since it is with the darkness that souls return. It is celebrated in Japan every summer (between July and August) and organized locally by each locality.

Watch this video and you will observe that the women are dressed in the summer kimono (yukata), and dance to the music of taikos drums and traditional music. The music is upbeat to welcome the ancestors and anyone can participate in the dance.

During Bon Odori people gather in open places around a tower with taiko drums dancing to the beat of traditional music. The music should be joyful to welcome the souls of the ancestors and the people should maintain a joyful mood.
