Where to find snow in Japan?

Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Russia, Norway… .. are the preferred destinations for winter holidays in Europe. But if you decide to travel outside of the continent, Japan is a popular winter and early spring tourist destination for those seeking snow.

In this sense, Japan offers something for everyone within reach of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

While most major cities in Japan receive small amounts of snow, there are many places in Japan that are covered by a lot of snow each year.

The snow season in Japan is long and in some places it starts as early as November and lasts until May, peaking in February

The two easiest places to enjoy guaranteed snow from Tokyo are yuzawa (75 minutes from Tokyo station by Joetsu Shinkansen) and Karuizawa (70 minutes from Tokyo station by Nagano Shinkansen.
