The neighborhoods of Moscow

Barrikadnaya

No doubt Moscow it is the center of attention of tourists. But the Russian capital also has several neighborhoods in its surroundings to visit. Many of the city's different districts and neighborhoods are separated by the Moscow River (Moskva River), which forms a natural border and also offers great views and endless river attractions.

In the heart of Moscow, which is located inside the royal arch next to the Kremlin building, which forms the center of the city itself, on Red Square it is surrounded by iconic Russian structures, and in odne you can find the artists in the Arbat district, which is famous throughout Moscow for its regular art market and premises, which can be found here prepped and ready to paint your portrait.

Other prominent neighborhoods include the Barrikadnaya, where both the city zoo and the White House, and the Khamovniki district, near the Luzhniki Stadium, perhaps best known for being Russia's most important sporting venue at the 1980 Olympics.

And surrounded by the streets of Lubyansky, Mokhovaya, Okhotny and Teatralny, Moscow city center is where it all happens and is home to many of the city's most famous landmarks. Red Square (Krasnaya Ploshchad) is situated along the northeast face of the Kremlin and is dominated on its southern side by the iconic 16th century St. Basil's Cathedral, with its crazy mix of colors and distinctive architecture.

Another of the districts is Tverssky. This neighborhood is full of places to sleep, eat and shop, and is immediately characterized by the richness of its historic buildings and period architecture. Built in 1629, the Church of the Resurrection (Tserkov Voskresenia) is worth a look, as are the many parks that line Tverskaya.

The Tverskoy district is particularly famous in Russian history for being the site of the first McDonald's in Russia, which still remains on the Ploshchad Pushkinskaya.
