El General Artigas was born on June 19, 1764 and died on September 23, 1850, became a historical landmark, with which each inhabitant of Uruguay, He was born into a wealthy family and his wealthy parents offered him all the opportunities that life at the time could have, beginning to work on family farms at a very early age.

Artigas to carry out field work became an expert rider and marksman, at the age of 30 Artigas enlisted in the Blandengues body, which was in charge of protecting the border between Uruguay and Brazil, as an amnesty agreement for young men who had committed crimes, of a non-violent nature.

Thus he intervened in the fight to free Buenos Aires and also had a very important performance in the battle of Montevideo, in which he was wounded and ended up as a prisoner of war, but it was in 1811 when General José Gervasio Artigas was able to leave the Blandengues body, to join the fight for the liberation of the so-called Banco del Este, a name that would later be known as Uruguay.
