Hialeah Park, Miami Racecourse

Hialeah Park It contains one of the oldest and most important horse racing tracks in Miami. Built in 1925 as a resort center, the park was modeled after European Longchamps racing sites like in France and several notable tracks in England.

Purchased in 1930 by Joseph widener, the park was redesigned and includes a Renaissance clubhouse, buildings and formal gardens of the native flora and fauna of South Florida. The park has a lake with several islands inhabited by large flocks of pink flamingos.

Hialeah Park has become so famous for these birds that it has been officially designated a sanctuary for the American Flamingo by the Audubon Society. The race track and related buildings are among the oldest existing recreational facilities in South Florida.

Originally built to attract the rich and famous who rode special trains to the Palm Beach park, Hialeah Park has contributed to the development and popularization of South Florida as a winter resort.

Hialeah Park is located in the City of Hialeah (NW of Miami) and is bounded by East 32nd Street, East 4th Avenue (Flamingo Way), the Florida East Coast Railroad and Palm Avenue.
