New York's Sixth Avenue

sixth avenue New York

La Sixth avenue It is one of the most important arteries of the city of New York. Its official name since 1945 is Avenue of the Americas but New Yorkers call it simply "Sixth avenue," as it has been known since it was born.

This avenue runs from the north of the island of Manhattan to Church Street. It goes through many important areas of the city such as Central Park, a park that it literally crosses.

The curious thing about this avenue is that it mutates according to where it is located. In the area of Central Park it cuts off at 59th Street to continue on 110th Street. It also changes its name in Harlem, where it is called Lenox Avenue.

To get to Sixth Avenue it is possible to take the subway because the IND Sixth Avenue Line goes there. That is not the only transportation on the avenue as the Port Authority Trans-Hudson passes under it.

In this artery it is possible to find some points of interest, starting with the most important: the Radio City Music Hall, which is located in Rockefeller Center. On Sixth Avenue there is also the famous department store Macy's and among the important buildings the Exxon Building. Another point of interest are the bronze statues of Simón Bolívar and José Martí that are located at the point where the street touches Central Park.
