Why does Canada have that name?

The origin of the name of this country comes from the expedition carried out by the renowned explorer Jaques cartier in the year 1535 by the St. Lawrence River.

The original peoples of North America known as Iroquois They lived on the route of the village of Stadacona, where today is the city of Quebec, for this the word kanata was used to call that area, but Cartier began to name it as Canada to call all this extensive area.

This is why from there the north of the Saint Lawrence River began to be called Canada, even years later in 1547 it already appeared on zone maps with this name.

You even have to take into account that Canada was also called the New France But from 1700 on, it finally gained the name of Canada, although other names were also imposed throughout time and history such as Victorialand, Borelia, Cabotia, North Region, among others.
