Golden lotuses, the smallest feet in the world

One of the Chinese traditions that most caught my attention as a child was that of the so-called "Golden lotuses", the ancient custom of prevent the growth of women's feet when considering that a small foot was much more beautiful. Today, tracing back in history, it seems that everything had its origin in the emperor Li Yu who had a concubine named Yaoniang who liked to bandage her feet when dancing the Lotus Dance so that they looked like small white crescents, and there in more the custom was settling.

It does not matter if the legend is true or not, what is true is that this painful custom began among the dancers of the imperial palace around the XNUMXth century. They were convinced that small feet were more graceful in their dances and little by little the The habit was spreading first to the ladies of the upper class and later to all the women of the vast Chinese territory. But Chinese women are not tall women so their common shoe size… how big can it be? Well, the Golden Lotuses in general could barely measure 8 cm long. Terrible!

What beauty can there be when the process is so painful And when does it end up getting the reverse result? Zero grace and a lot of clumsiness in the movements. But hey, the idea of the Chinese regarding women was quite classical, children, the house, virtue and that kind of thing, so adapting to Confucian ideas, little feet did not meet resistance for many years. in fact they ended up becoming the most erotic part of the woman's body, a true object of desire that drove Chinese men mad with passion.

Everything has its price. The process of making the foot smaller was somewhat painful and time consuming. Until she was 5, 6 years old, the girl walked at her own pace, but from then on, families that could keep their daughters indoors, without working, began to bandage the girls' feet. First, it was convenient to consult an astrologer and determine the best date to start, secondly, you had to have your nails very short, and thirdly ... endure the pain for at least two years.

After this time of bandages and indescribable pain, the nerve died. Then it was necessary to wash the feet and soak them to avoid infections, and finally the mother broke the 4 smallest fingers pressing them against the heel, he bandaged them and repeated the operation for 10 more years, changing shoes from time to time for even smaller ones. A real Chinese torture. Luckily I ended up in 1911 when they were banned by the communist government.

really aberrant ... but how are we amazed? acts of violence against women exist in each culture, in its own way. mutilations in africa, murders in mexico, punishments and murders in india, afghanistan, etc. Even in the most remote tribes we find similar acts in pursuit of the beauty of the place.

abominable, yes. But all over the world to this day, women continue to be the target of torture, death, injustice.

March 8, International Women's Day. it is up to each one of us to change the reality of violence in the world

This custom not only made women look funnier but also had another "side effect" that is not talked about so much: pressing the feet strengthens the muscles of the vagina - and with it some delicious pleasures for the husband.

How can Chinese and Japanese say that such a deformed foot is beautiful. The shoes that the model shows are beautiful. But the feet lack aesthetics and elegance to walk. One day when I put on some shoes that I bought boys, my foot even got a fever and my knee swelled. I had to take pain relievers and fosters to fix myself. Poor women all for wearing the fashion and culture of their country, according to the beliefs and culture of each region or place.

    interesting blog greetings to all.

It is not to defend, but in each culture these types of aberrations are committed. Right now, in our western culture we have people who put plastic things on different parts of the body (chest, buttocks, face, etc.), others in surgical procedures cut bones, or extract fat and skin. Other people torture themselves for life by eating very little, or in the worst case, inducing vomiting… AND ALL OF THIS TOO TO MEET THE STANDARDS OF BEAUTY THAT WE IMPOSE.

Beauty is something much deeper than a little more or less meat accumulated in X place, and any intention to define it in a single particular way is arbitrary and biased.

    Nothing stupid, nothing stupid.
(Stupid those comments above, intolerant, ignorant.)

It amazes us because we are not used to it but each culture has its own customs.

Personally, I am glad that the communist government has banned this custom (:
Because it was obviously healthy ground for women who were victims of beauty models.

All very well, but there must be a mistake in ascribing to communism the end of that rare and atrocious custom, since in 1911, communism did not even exist in Russia. Of course, I'm assuming it was banned in that year.

According to history, it was in 1917 when Lenin established communism in Russia, and in China it was not until 1949.

In 1911, those who ruled China were the Manchu, who never bandaged the feet of their women, however, it was that year that they were evicted.
