Whenever we refer to Cuba, we are talking about beaches, hotels, golf, diving, water sports and historical sites that date back to colonial times, right? Well, now it is the turn of an activity that is really not very popular: the hunting.
I don't like killing animals for fun so it gives me a bit of an impression, but the island is a sought after destination to hunt certain species. Among them, the woodcock, quail, turtledoves, shoveler and red duck. In Cuba there are many migratory birds, teals and some geese that follow the Atlantic route and cross the island. To go hunting it is necessary to have a permit, but for these species the permit is frequent.
Cuba offers a good geography for hunting these animals since there are rice fields, reservoirs, swamps, virgin forests, plains and river mouths that are highly sought after hunting grounds. The most popular animals are the ducks: Bahama Pintel, Blue Windm Green Wind, Cuchareta, Morisco and Mexican Guayasín. The main reserves are in Pinar del Río: Maspoton y Alonso Rojas; yariguá in Cienfuegos, Hummock in Ciego de Ávila, Florida in Camagüey, sea cow in Topes de Collantes, The Indian in Baconao Park and others in Santiago de Cuba and Sancti Spiritus.
