Paya's funeral

News from Cuba, that's what we have on this Wednesday. On the one hand, it is international news that at least seven dissidents were arrested by the Cuban government during the funeral of activist Oswaldo Payá. Among them was Guillermo Fariñas. The ceremony was taking place in Havana and when they left the El Salvador del Mundo church towards the cemetery, the political police approached them and detained them.

Some 300 people had gathered in the surroundings to accompany the coffin after it was the cardinal himself who officiated the religious service. And it was then, when people were leaving the church and preparing to go to the cemetery, that the police appeared and made the arrests. Let us remember that Payá was the leader of the Christian Liberation Movement, he was 60 years old and died as a result of a car accident on Sunday afternoon. In another vein, as the world fades into a great capitalist crisis Cuba, which knows a lot about living in crisis, seems to show slight signs of improvement.

It is not that the economic or social changes are revolutionary, but while the censorship is still in force and there are things that the government prefers not to talk about: the cholera outbreak and the blessed fiber optic cable laid from Venezuela that we talked about last year and the that still nothing is known, there are improvements in the economic field and that is seen in the private restaurants from Havana. The menus of these restaurants are adjusting to the international palate to a very high standard, so Cuba will be poor but it has glamor. For 20 euros you eat like the Gods, it's that simple.
