The mountains of Cuba

If you think that Cuba only has beaches, you are very wrong. The largest of the Antilles, although it is a rather flat country, has mountains. These mountains are more in the western part of the island, in the extreme east and towards the south of the center. This is where you are the mountains proper, then there are slight terrain oscillations here and there.

Among the best known mountains are the Guamuhaya Mountains (which are usually called Escambray), distributed between the lands of Sancti Spiritus and Trinidad, only surpassed in height by those of Sierra Maestra. Its peaks are, some of them, greater than 1000 meters, and are home to the oldest rocks on the island. Some look like mogotes and have caves on their slopes, there are some open valleys and many with many ferns, aromatic plants and wild flowers. On the other hand is the haughty Sierra maestra same

It is the most important mountain range in Cuba, it runs along the southern coast to Guantánamo, about 250 kilometers and 30 km wide. In reality there are several chains that run in parallel and the largest is the closest to the coast. There is also the Guaniguanico Mountain Range, the Sierra de las Cubitas, the Sagua-Baracoa group, the Cuchillas del Toa and within the Isla de la Juventud there are the Sierras de Caballos and Las Casas.
